Scottish Government Vaccination Programme Update (Jan 2021)

New Vaccination Update from 1 January 2021: Including Priority Groups

The Chief Medical Officer for Scotland has issued an updated letter about the arrangements being made for the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

The letter focuses on:

  • the timescale for second doses of the vaccine;
  • a phased approach to vaccinations;
  • further information and resources for staff, carer homes and the general public; and
  • priority groups for the vaccine.

Within the letter, social care staff are identified as being part of Priority 2:

Social care staff directly involved in the care of their service users and others involved directly in delivering social care such that they and vulnerable patients/clients are at increased risk of exposure. This includes, for example, workers in residential care for adults and children, supported housing, and also personal assistants and social workers who have face-to-face contact in the course of their duties including child, adult, mental health officer duties and public protection‘ (Annex B)
