Upcoming changes to PVG for Personal Assistants – what you need to know
A new law will come into force in April 2025 that will make it a legal requirement for Personal Assistants employed through Self-directed Support to join the PVG scheme.

In summary, the changes mean:
- From 1 April 2025 it will be a legal requirement for Personal Assistants to join the PVG scheme
- There are exceptions for PAs who are carrying out the role as part of a family or personal relationship – find out more in the full update
- It is the Personal Assistant, and not the Employer, who is responsible for ensuring they are signed up to the PVG scheme
- It is the Personal Assistant, and not the Employer, who is accountable if they continue to work as a PA after 1 April 2025 without joining the scheme.
