We’re excited to share details of a brand new training course developed exclusively for SDSS members.

(PLEASE NOTE: This event is taking place over 2 dates – see details below)

Working with Autistic Knowledge Development, an autistic led organisation, we’ve developed a bespoke training course focused on supporting autistic people to access SDS.

Delivered online over two sessions, the course is an in-depth look at all aspects of autism awareness, and delves into some of the barriers that autistic people may face when trying to access SDS.

What does the training cover?

The training covers:

  • What is autism and how does being autistic impact people’s daily lives?
  • The challenges that autistic people face when trying to access the support that they need
  • How organisations can become more accessible to autistic people in their area
  • How organisations can support people to access support through SDS.

When is it on?

The training lasts seven hours in total and will be delivered online across two sessions. You’ll need to be available on both dates to complete the training:

  • Session 1: Thursday 6th February 2025 – 10am – 1.30pm
  • Session 2: Thursday 20th February 2025 – 10am – 1.30pm

The space between sessions will give time for reflection and a short task for participants to complete.

Who is the training for?

Anyone who works in a role supporting people to access SDS will find this training helpful. The course will help you understand how to make your services more accessible to autistic people, and how to navigate some of the barriers that autistic people face in accessing SDS. This is for people from Independent Support Organisations and Local Authority / HSCP staff.

How much does the training cost?

Special New Year offer: There is now a 2 for 1 ticket offer for this event. Anyone who works for, or volunteers with, an SDSS member organisation can access 2 places for the discounted rate of £55, which covers both sessions. We would like someone from our member organisation to take 1 place, but you are welcome to offer the 2nd place to anyone else, including colleagues from other organisations or Local Authority / HSCP staff.
