New e-learning modules launched for Personal Assistants
Two brand new e-learning modules aimed at Personal Assistants and their Employers have been launched by Self Directed Support Scotland.
The modules were developed following the publication of the Personal Assistant National Training Framework – a resource for Employers and PAs last year.
The Framework identified gaps in training available to Personal Assistants, and so the modules have been developed in collaboration with Employers and PAs to address this need.
The modules are free to access and cover two topics:
Understanding the Value of a Personal Assistant
- where the concept of Personal Assistance came from, how it is designed to uphold human rights and the values and principles of Self-directed Support
- how the role of Personal Assistant is different from other roles in social care
- what makes a great PA
- the unique role of the Personal Assistant Employer
- how to improve your practice as a PA and work well with your Employer (and the person you assist if your Employer is someone different).
Healthy Working Relationships
- what makes a healthy relationship between a Personal Assistant and their Employer
- about the power dynamics that exists within working relationships
- how PAs and Employers can best communicate with each other
- the importance of maintaining confidentiality
- how to manage any disagreements.
The modules are designed to assist Employers with their training responsibilities by providing relevant training which will support their developing relationship with their PA. They include reflective exercises that facilitate communication and discussion between an Employer and their Personal Assistants.
The module topics are also useful for anyone interested or considering becoming a PA.
You can get started with the modules on the Learning Hub website.
Each module includes an evaluation so that future modules can be developed in response to learner feedback.
