Report published on data around Personal Assistants

The Scottish Government have published a report looking into sources of data on Personal Assistants.

Developing the Personal Assistant workforce has been a focus of the national Personal Assistant Programme Board since it was established in 2021. A main focus of the Programme Board has been improving the data that exists on Personal Assistants, which are a largely unquantified and unknown workforce compared to other parts of the social care support workforce. More data is needed on Personal Assistants to help with workforce planning – understanding what the current PA workforce looks like, and anticipating what the future need is going to be for Personal Assistants in Scotland.

The report, Personal Assistants: current data sources and future worksummarises the main data that is available and looks at whether the data is helpful, and what gaps there still exist in data around PAs. It recommends further work to enable a more accurate estimate of the size of the PA workforce in Scotland.
