Rights to Care Booklet for Children and Young People

Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland (CYPCS) have produced a really useful booklet Rights to Care that describes the rights of people leaving care, in relation to ‘Continuing Care’ and ‘Aftercare’. This has important connections to Self-directed Support for those leaving care.

In 2014, the Scottish Government passed a law that made some important changes for young people who had been in care. The Local Authority has a responsibility to promote their wellbeing and that includes keeping them safe and healthy and helping them access opportunities and support,such as housing and education. Importantly, this care and support doesn’t end when someone leaves care.
