Scottish Government Confirms Extension to National Care Service Stage 2 Bill Process

Maree Todd, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, has written to stakeholders on the 14th of November to confirm that the Stage 2 consideration of the National Care Service Bill will not commence on the 26th of November as originally planned.

SDSS were one of many organsiations and individuals who responded to the National Care Service Bill Stage 2 call for evidence, in September 2024. You can read SDSS’ response in our news story from September.

Despite a continued commitment to introducing a National Care Service, the Minister explained that it is ‘crucial’ for the government to take the time to get this right.

The Scottish Government will announce new Stage 2 dates following agreement being reached between the Minister for Parliamentary Business and the Scottish Parliament.
