Upcoming changes to PVG for Personal Assistants – what you need to know

A new law will come into force in April 2025 that will make it a legal requirement for Personal Assistants employed through Self-directed Support to join the PVG scheme.

Disclosure Scotland, who manage the PVG scheme, have prepared information for Employers and PAs to help them understand the changes.

You can read the information, including frequently asked questions, in the PA Employer and PA Handbooks:

  • There are exceptions for PAs who are carrying out the role as part of a family or personal relationship – find out more in the full update
  • It is the Personal Assistant, and not the Employer, who is responsible for ensuring they are signed up to the PVG scheme
  • It is the Personal Assistant, and not the Employer, who is accountable if they continue to work as a PA after 1 April 2025 without joining the scheme.
