SAMH Research on Impact of COVID-19 and Mental Health
SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) has launched new research into the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on adults with mental health problems.
The coronavirus pandemic has dramatically affected the way we have all lived our lives. These changes include fundamental changes to the way mental health care and treatment has been delivered since the national ‘lockdown’ was introduced in March of this year.
Mental health services were stretched even before the pandemic, with waiting times targets for both adults and young people regularly being missed. SAMH believes there is an opportunity to rebuild mental health services to meet increased need, and wants to find out how existing services have been affected in recent months.
The research
Participants must live in Scotland, be 16 or over and have been receiving or been referred for mental health support in the last 18 months. Participants will be asked to share their experiences of changes to their mental health support; how these changes made them feel; and how their mental health has been affected during the pandemic. The findings will inform future policy to ensure that support is available to those who need it the most.
The initial survey will take around 15 minutes to complete and will close on Tuesday 18th of August at 5pm.
